Andrew Zimmern’s 5-Ingredient Casserole Is the Cozy Weeknight Dinner We’re Making All Fall

Andrew Zimmern’s Favorite Tater Tot Hotdish

Casseroles, particularly the beloved hotdish, are a Midwestern staple, and nobody knows this better than Chef Andrew Zimmern. Originally from New York but now a Minnesotan, Zimmern found himself enamored with this easy, comforting dish perfect for when you’re short on time and ingredients.

Ingredients:

Item Quantity
Ground beef 2 pounds
Onion 1, minced
Condensed cream of mushroom soup 2 cans
Frozen green beans 1 (16-ounce) bag
Frozen tater tots 24 ounces
Salt and pepper To taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Brown the Meat: In a large casserole pot over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef with the minced onion. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  3. Layer Ingredients: Once the beef is browned and the juices are evaporated, remove from heat. Layer the frozen green beans on top. Spread the undiluted cream of mushroom soup over the beans, and finally, add the frozen tater tots as the top layer.

  4. Bake: Place the casserole in the center of the preheated oven. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, until the tater tots are crispy and golden brown. Season with sea salt before serving. A touch of ketchup pairs beautifully!

This easy five-ingredient recipe is versatile! If you don’t have some of the listed items, feel free to substitute with what you have on hand. Enjoy experimenting with different vegetables or canned soups to make it your own!

Enjoy your delicious hotdish!
